Christmas Sugar Cookies

Hello! Welcome to Daisy Farm Kitchen! Christmas is here! I always crave sweet treats around the holidays. Christmas desserts are so comforting and nostalgic. Sugar cookies are my favorite dessert to eat this time of year.  I love this sugar cookie recipe. It is simple to prepare and turns out so well. I used some Christmas cookie cutters I had on hand to make trees, angels, and bells.

You can make any shape you like with this dough. I’ve even used this recipe for Valentine’s Day cookies! (Click here for recipe) The cookies are super delicious even without frosting! They are crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. I opted to add some frosting on top to make them more festive.  To me, frosting cookies can be a little tedious. I’m definitely not a pro like my sister, Haley, who frosts cookies all the time for work at a cookie shop. However, I enjoy the challenge and feel my skills are getting better.

I made buttercream frosting but, these cookies would work with other types of frosting like cream cheese, royal or even a store bought jar of frosting. No judgement here!  I will let you in on a little secret. I used a buttercream kit to make my frosting! I added shortening, butter, and milk to the mix and I was done! It was so quick and easy. I added a little bit more milk than instructed to make the frosting really smooth. It tastes great and looks perfect.

I used the Celebakes Whimsical White Buttercream Icing Mix (pictured above). I got it a while ago and I’m having a hard time finding the exact kit on Amazon. But, they have an Amazon shop that is full of goodies including sprinkles and food coloring. Even though you have to refrigerate the cookie dough for 2-3 hours, it is totally worth it! Having the cookies sit in the fridge helps the dough roll out nicely and cut into perfect shapes.
